# Walkthrough and VR

Walk through your design at eye level, choose where you start with a spawn point, show it off in Preview, or step inside it with a VR headset.

Floor plans and orbit views are great for designing, but nothing beats standing in the room. Luw\.ai Studio lets you walk through your design at eye height, open its doors as you go, and turn any view you like into an AI render. With a VR headset, you can step right inside it.

## Start a walkthrough

Click **Walkthrough** (the footprints button) in the viewer toolbar at the top right of the canvas. The button turns green, the mouse pointer disappears, and you're standing in your design.

You can also start from the **Export** dialog: its **3D Render** section has an **Enter Walkthrough Mode** button.

To stop, press `Esc`. If you've freed the mouse pointer with `P` (see below), you can also click **Esc to exit** at the bottom of the screen.

## Move around

| To                                           | Press                                      |
| -------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ |
| Walk forward, back, left or right            | `W` `A` `S` `D`, or the arrow keys         |
| Look around | Move the mouse |
| Run                                          | Hold `Shift`                               |
| Jump                                         | `Space`                                    |
| Crouch                                       | Hold `Ctrl`                                |
| Open or close a door or window | Look at it and press `E`, or click |
| Get your mouse pointer back | `P` (press `P` again or click to carry on) |
| Render what you see with AI (when signed in) | `Enter` |
| Leave the walkthrough                        | `Esc`                                      |

You walk on the floors and can't pass through walls, so use the doors. A dot in the middle of the screen is your aim. When it grows into a green ring, you're looking at something you can use, and a prompt tells you what will happen, for example **E or click to open door**. The same works for elevator buttons and for lights you can switch on and off.

The name of the floor you're on is shown at the top of the screen, together with the room you're standing in.

{% hint style="info" %}
`P` is handy when you want to take a screenshot with your computer's own tools or click something outside the view. While the pointer is free, the bottom of the screen reads **Click or P to resume**.
{% endhint %}

## Choose where you start

Without a spawn point, the walkthrough starts on the floor you're currently viewing, or on the lowest floor if none is selected. You land on the spot below where the camera was, facing the same way the camera was looking, so you can line up your entrance from the orbit view before you click **Walkthrough**. If there's no floor under the camera, you start nearer the middle of the building.

To start in the same place every time, place a spawn point. Until you do, the walkthrough reminds you: **Place a spawn point from the Build tab to control where walkthrough starts.**

1. In the **Build** tab, open **Advanced** and click **Spawn point**.
2. Click where you want to start. Press `R` or `T` before you click to turn the figure so it faces the right way. `Esc` cancels.
3. Select the spawn point later to fine-tune it: its properties show **X**, **Y** and **Z**, the **Yaw** (which way it faces), and **Move** and **Delete** buttons.

A project has one spawn point. Placing it again moves the existing one to the new spot, on the floor you're working on. Once it's there, every walkthrough starts at it, facing the direction it points.

If you ever fall off the edge of the model, you're put back at your starting point.

## Render the view you're standing in

When you're [signed in](/luw.ai-studio/account/account-and-sign-in.md), a small **Enter render this view** reminder sits in the bottom-right corner during a walkthrough. Press `Enter` and the Studio captures exactly what you see, leaves the walkthrough so you can use the mouse again, and opens the **Ready to render with AI** window with that snapshot. **Render with AI** there opens Luw\.ai Render AI on app.luw\.ai with the view loaded, and you finish the render on that site. The view also becomes the project's cover picture.

To render inside the Studio instead, with the result in the project's **Gallery**, use **Render** in the viewer toolbar. See [Render with AI](/luw.ai-studio/luw.ai-ai-tools/render-with-ai.md) for both routes.

{% hint style="success" %}
For eye-level shots you can repeat, put a spawn point in the doorway, walk in, line up the view and press `Enter`.
{% endhint %}

## Show it off in Preview

Preview hides the editing tools and leaves a clean viewer, which is useful when you're presenting a design to someone.

1. Press `Ctrl + K` (`Cmd + K` on a Mac) to open the command palette.
2. Type `preview` and choose **Enter Preview**.

In Preview, the project name sits in a card at the top left. Along the bottom, a control bar lets you change how levels and walls are shown, orbit the model, jump to a top view, and start a walkthrough. If your project has floors, you can switch between 3D and 2D.

To get back to editing, click the back arrow (**Back**) next to the project name.

## Explore in VR

With a VR headset you can step into your design at full scale, or hold it in front of you like a model on a table. VR comes from the **VR** plugin, which every new project has installed. If you've uninstalled it, add it back from the plugin list (see [Plugins](/luw.ai-studio/plugins/plugins.md)).

### What you need

* A compatible VR headset.
* A browser that supports immersive VR through WebXR.
* The Studio opened over a secure (`https://`) address, as it is at studio.luw\.ai.

When something's missing, the **VR** tab says **Immersive VR is not supported on this device** and its button reads **VR unavailable**. A note under the viewer toolbar also asks you to connect a headset and open the editor over HTTPS.

### Enter VR

1. Open the **VR** tab in the left rail. When the status reads **Ready to enter VR**, you're good to go.
2. Under **Starting view**, choose how you want to begin:
   * **God**: you start above the model and can move, turn and scale it with your controllers.
   * **Human**: you pick a clear spot on the floor in VR, confirm it, and then explore at full scale.
3. Click **Enter VR** in the tab, or the VR button next to **Walkthrough** in the viewer toolbar, and put on your headset.

The Studio switches to the 3D view with walls at full height and floors stacked. Your previous view settings come back when you leave VR.

### Controls in the headset

* **Select**: point at something and pull the trigger. With hand tracking, pinch instead.
* **In God mode**: hold one grip to move the model. Hold both grips and move your hands apart or together, or around each other, to scale and rotate it.
* **Going to Human mode**: point your right controller at a clear floor and pull the trigger (or pinch) to place a target, then choose **Enter**. If you'd like a different spot, place a new target first.
* **In Human mode**: use the left thumbstick to walk and the right thumbstick to turn in steps.
* **Switch modes**: press `X` on the left controller, or use the scale setting in the in-headset settings.
* **Your tool panel**: a floating panel gives you building, painting, item and settings tools inside VR. Tap `Y` on the left controller to show or hide it, or hold `Y` to bring it in front of you.

The **VR** tab has the same tips under its controls guide, so you can check them before you put the headset on.

### Leave VR

Choose **Exit VR** from the in-headset settings, the **VR** tab or the toolbar, or end the session from your headset.
