# Finding items

Browse the Items tab by category, search the catalog by name or tag, and bring in models of your own with Upload or Photo → 3D.

Walls and floors give you a building; items make it a place someone could live in. The **Items** tab of Luw\.ai Studio holds the furniture catalog, from beds and bookshelves to fridges, smoke detectors and garden palms. It is also where you bring in models of your own, either by uploading a file or by letting Luw\.ai turn a photo into a 3D model.

This page is about finding the right piece. Putting it in the room, moving it and stacking things on it are covered in [Placing and arranging](/luw.ai-studio/items-and-paint/placing-and-arranging.md).

## Open the Items tab

Click **Items** in the left rail, or press `F` from anywhere in the editor, which opens the tab and switches to the item tool in one go.

The tab has three parts, from top to bottom:

1. A row of five category icons.
2. A **Search...** box.
3. The item grid. Its first two tiles are always **Upload** and **Photo → 3D**, followed by the items of the category you picked (or your search results).

## Browse by category

The catalog is split into five categories. When you open the tab for the first time, **Furniture** is selected.

| Category      | What you'll find there                                                                                                                                            |
| ------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Furniture** | Beds, sofas and armchairs, tables and desks, storage, lamps, rugs, mirrors, plants, plus a few hobby pieces such as a piano or a pool table |
| **Appliance** | Electronics and small appliances (television, computer, coffee machine, toaster), climate units, and fixtures like power outlets, thermostats and smoke detectors |
| **Kitchen** | Fridge, stove, hood, microwave, counters, cabinets and shelves, and small kitchenware |
| **Bathroom** | Toilet, bathtub, showers, sink, and laundry pieces such as a washing machine and a drying rack |
| **Outdoor** | Trees, bushes and palms, a sunbed, a patio umbrella, play equipment, cars and a parking spot |

Click a category icon to show its items. Choosing a category also clears any search you had typed.

{% hint style="info" %}
Doors, windows, stairs and roofs aren't items. You'll find them in the **Build** tab; see [Walls](/luw.ai-studio/building/walls.md) and the other pages in the Building section.
{% endhint %}

## Search the catalog

Type in the **Search...** box and the grid updates as you type. A search always looks through the whole catalog, not only the category that is highlighted, and it checks each item's tags as well as its name.

Tags are useful when you don't know what an item is called. Searching for `lighting`, for example, brings up the ceiling lamp, floor lamp, table lamp and recessed light from **Furniture**, together with the exit sign from **Appliance**. Style and material words such as `scandinavian` or `oak` work the same way for items that carry those tags.

Clear the box (or click a category) to go back to browsing.

## Read a tile

A tile is a picture of the item with its name underneath. When the picture carries a badge in one corner, the item mounts somewhere other than the floor:

* a **wall** badge for things that hang on walls, such as pictures and mirrors;
* a **ceiling** badge for things that hang from the ceiling, such as ceiling lamps and fans.

Items without a badge go on the floor, or can be set on a table or another surface. Click any tile to start placing it; [Placing and arranging](/luw.ai-studio/items-and-paint/placing-and-arranging.md) explains what happens next.

## Add models of your own

Two tiles lead the grid in every category and in search results.

### Upload a 3D file

**Upload** opens the **Upload 3D Model** dialog. Drop a `.glb` or `.gltf` file onto it (or click to browse), give the model a name if you like, and click **Upload & Place**. The Studio optimizes the file, stores it on Luw\.ai, and hands the model to your cursor at its own size, ready to click into the scene. You need to be signed in.

An uploaded model goes into your project only. It doesn't appear as a tile in the Items grid, so to use it again, duplicate or copy the one you placed. See [Photo → 3D](/luw.ai-studio/luw.ai-ai-tools/photo-to-3d.md#upload-your-own-3d-model) for the details.

### Make a model from a photo

**Photo → 3D** opens **3D models from photos**. Drop in a photo of an object (it works best with a single object on a plain background) and Luw\.ai builds a 3D model from it in about two to three minutes, for 3 credits (8 with **Premium quality**, offered to paying customers). You can keep working while it's being made. The **Create** tab in the left rail makes models too, from a photo or from a few words, with a choice of the **Symphony** or **Aria** engine. The full walkthrough is on the [Photo → 3D](/luw.ai-studio/luw.ai-ai-tools/photo-to-3d.md) page.

### Your Luw\.ai 3D library

The same **3D models from photos** dialog lists every model you've generated, newest first. This is your Luw\.ai 3D library: it belongs to your Luw\.ai account, so models you made in one project are ready to use in any other. Click a model to preview it, then click **Add to scene** to put it on your cursor.

{% hint style="success" %}
You don't have to go through the Items tab every time. Dropping a photo of furniture onto the 3D view or the plan offers to make a 3D model of it, and [Archiagent.ai](/luw.ai-studio/luw.ai-ai-tools/archiagent.md) can place catalog items and models from your library when you ask it to. Models you make while a project is open are also kept in that project's **Gallery**, where **Add to the scene** places them.
{% endhint %}
